Ruth Sweatt

Ruth Sweatt, 89, of Midland, formerly of Big Spring, died on Monday, December 3, 2001, in a Midland hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. . She was born on October 22, 1912 in Springtown, Texas and married Paul Sweatt on December 18, 1936 in Colorado City, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1993. Mrs. Sweatt was moved to West Texas at the age of 11 with her parents, Wesley and Anna Byrd. She received her Bachelor of Science at Sam Houston University in Huntsville and her Master of Education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She taught school for 38 years, retiring from Big Spring ISD in 1974. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and a member of Big Spring Chapter #67, Order of the Eastern Star. She did volunteer work at Scenic Mountain Medical Center, the VA Hospital and the State Hospital. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus and Sharon Sweatt of Waco and Ronald and Charlotte Sweatt of Midland; and two grandchildren, Justin and Krystal Sweatt of Midland. She was also preceded in death by twins, LaRue and Laroy in 1941. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.,
