James Walter Salvato, 71, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in a local hospital. Honoring his wishes, no services are planned at this time. James was born August 2, 1942 to Peter and Leota (Reid) Salvato in San Angelo, TX. He married Viola Barfield June 17, 2005 in Big Spring. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from San Angelo State University and taught mathematics for nearly 20 years. He taught in Sterling City, Forsan and Big Spring. After retiring from teaching, he opened and operated Big Spring Tire on Gregg Street for the next 20 years. He loved fishing and taking care of his animals, especially his dog Maggie. James served his country in the United States Army. James is survived by his wife, Viola Salvato; two sons, Lane Salvato and wife, Karen, of Lubbock, and Wade Salvato of San Angelo; one daughter, Jennifer Painter of San Angelo, and two granddaughters, Sydni and Nicki.
