Jackie (Jack) Sanford Strickland, 70, of Midland, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Memorial services will be held Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 am at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.Jack was born on November 20, 1948 to Effie and James Andrew Lee Strickland in Pampa, Texas. He received his GED while serving in the United States Army. Jack served in the Vietnam War from June 1969 to June 1970. He received several decorations including: National defense service medal, Vietnam service medal w/2 bronze service stars, Vietnam campaign medal w/60 device; combat infantryman badge, army commendation medal w/ “V” device & oak leaf cluster, air medal (2nd award), bronze star medal w/ oak leaf cluster. When he was discharged he had achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was a drywall contractor and construction superintendent for Sills & Swindell, Inc. for over thirty years working in locations all over the country. The Lone Star State was in his blood and he always longed to return to Texas when he was away. Jack was a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers and if you got in front of the TV when he was trying to watch them you would surely suffer. He enjoyed old country music, buying, selling and working on cars, and 1957 Chevys. He loved his family. He loved his women. And he loved his cold beer.Jack is survived by his son Todd Strickland and wife Stephanie of Midland, Texas and their children Taylor Strickland, Kayla Strickland, Layne Banks, and Kobi Strickland; Daughter Amanda Bledsoe of Midland, Texas and her children Dayden Bledsoe and Haylee Bledsoe; Daughter Amy Strickland-Galindo of Midland, Texas and husband Derian and their children Ian Galindo and Ella Galindo; Daughter Jolie Woody Callier and husband Darrell of Caddo Mills, Texas, and children Megann Callier, Kaitlynn Callier, and Justinn Callier. Great-grandchildren Rylan Strickland, Hopelynn Bidlack, Tyler Moses, Aaliyah Strickland. Brother Ruben Strickland. Sisters Lee Tillman, Mary Daniel, and Martha Stansbery. Several nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly and each claim to be his favorite.He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lenferd “Bud” Strickland, Floyd Strickland, Thomas “Ed” Strickland, James Strickland and Donald Strickland; sisters June Ripley and Vesta Monogue; grandson Tyler StricklandHonorary pallbearers will be Kevin Strickland, Jeremy Strickland, Dayden Bledsoe, Derian Galindo and Marshall BlytheIn lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice of Midland or the American Cancer Society.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
