After a valiant battle against ovarian cancer, the disease claimed Sibyl’s life on June 15, 2018. A memorial service will be held on June 23, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Midland. There will be a private interment service at Resthaven North Mausoleum.Sibyl Ann Helmer was born on April 30, 1952 in Pasadena, Texas to O.Z. (Doc) and Juanita (Nita) Helmer. Her early years were spent in Iraan, Texas where her father worked as a geologist for Standard Oil of Texas. After a brief stint in Fort Stockton, Texas, the family moved to Midland in 1960. Sibyl graduated from Midland High School in 1970, where she was a varsity cheerleader for four years and was on both the Catoico Court and Student Council. She attended the University of Texas in Austin where she was elected cheerleader for two years and was also named Top Ten Most Beautiful on Campus as selected by Charlton Heston. She was a member of Delta Gamma Social Sorority. After two years at UT, she attended Amarillo College where she received her dental hygiene degree. Even after receiving her degree she continued to pursue her education through evening classes at Midland College where she took various courses in geology, Spanish, German, and business. Ultimately she graduated Magna Cum Laude in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from The University of Texas-Permian Basin. She passed the CPA exam, scoring over 90 on one part but she never applied for her license, preferring to remain in the dental field as a hygienist. Sibyl was kindhearted, witty, intelligent, educated and fearless. Up until the last, she met her health issues head on with a smile on her face and never complaining. She enjoyed adventure; travel, especially to Puerto Vallarta, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Aspen; swimming; skiing; golf; and gymnastics. Float trips down the Guadalupe River were one of her favorite weekend pastimes.Sibyl is survived by her husband of almost 34 years, Sammy L. Morrison; Niki, her four-legged companion; her mother, Juanita Helmer of Midland; her brother, Dr. O.Z. Helmer, Jr. and wife, Brenda and his son, Bret Helmer, all of Fort Worth; her sister, Deborah Knorr of Dallas and her children, Charlotte Price and husband, James and their children, Evey and Austin all of Woodridge, Virginia; and Christanne Knorr of Irving; her brother-in-law, Lawrence Jay Morrison and wife, Tina of Fort Worth and their children, Judy Barnett and husband, Ansel and their daughter, Willow all of Round Rock; and Matthew Morrison of Fort Worth.Sibyl was preceded in death by her father, O.Z.
