Paula Wootan was born on April 19, 1931 in Delhi, Louisiana to William Clark McCartney and Nonie Ashley McCartney. After graduating from beauty school, she married Sam Wootan on November 5, 1955 in Lovington, New Mexico. They raised two children, Greg and Sharla, in Midland, Texas.Paula loved her work and her customers. She retired for the first time in 1989, but after six months she declared that she had too much free time on her hands and went back to work. On November 2, 2018, she retired again, after over 60 years in the beauty industry. Paula was an amazing cook and spent many hours making her famous fried chicken and the world’s best roast. Her family loved gathering at her dinner table, laughing and eating together. Taking care of her family was her greatest pride and joy, and she was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She spoke her mind, loved her family, and loved Jesus. A member of Crestview Baptist Church since her baptism on October 28, 1962, she never missed a Sunday. She especially loved listening to her son-in-law sing in the church choir and watching her grandchildren’s programs and activities.Paula was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings: Howard McCartney, Eunice Townsend, Burl McCartney, Earl McCartney, Buddy McCartney, James McCartney, Joe McCartney, Bill McCartney, and Erlene Brock. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Mildred Wade. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Sam Wootan, her son Greg and his wife Marla, and their children Trey and Russ. Daughter Sharla McDaniel and her husband Tom, and their children Laura McDaniel and Michael and Kathryn Zimmerhanzel. Great-grandchildren, Casey, Calista, Annie, Rae, Noah, and Kaylee. Her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren will cherish the memory of their sassy and loving “Muffin.”A memorial service will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Midland, Texas on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 3:00 PM.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
