Johnnie Grace Callahan, 84, of Big Spring, died Saturday, October 27, 2018 in Midland. Graveside services will be 10:00 Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.She was born June 16, 1934, to Elzie Raliegh Teague and Cleo Hazel (Sims) in Russellville, Arkansas, the second of eleven children.Spring of 1953, Leon Bryant \L.B.\ Callahan and Johnnie were joined in marriage in Reno, Nevada. To this union two daughters were born: Bonnie Louise and Dorothy Laverne. Leon had two sons that brightened Johnnie's heart: David Leon and Robert Leroy, foster children: Carol Denise Choorick and Gloria Idonna (Teague) Portman.Home was \where the heart is.\ They moved frequently, living in California, Nevada, and Texas. There last home together was in Big Spring, Texas.Johnnie received her high school diploma while living in Porterville, California. She graduated with honors in 1969, an accomplishment that filled her with pride, and thankful to live in a country that offered such an opportunity.After Leon's passing in 2001, Johnnie became a member of the Spring Tabernacle Mission in Big Spring. She enjoyed participating in the volunteer services and occasionally led the congregation in the Joyous Celebration of song to our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband, Leon B. Callahan; stepson, David L. Callahan; foster child, Carol D. Choorick; parents and step-father, Elzie Teague, Cleo (Simms) and Don Fudge; siblings, Bolivia (Abraham), Monte Teague, Carolyn (Henson), Sue (Gregg), James Teague, Terry Teague; mother-in-law, Amye (Dyess) Callahan; father-in-law, V. G. Callahan; sister-in-law and husband, Catherine B. (Callahan) and Harry Green; grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Callahan, Hemet, CA; step son, Robert Callahan, Chowchilla CA; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie (Callahan) and Roger Cota, Saint Hilaire, MN; Dori (Callahan) and Joe Deering, Big Spring, TX; foster daughter/sister Gloria (Teague) Portman, Victorville, CA; sister, Mary (Teague) Lundelius, Victorville, CA; brothers, Noah and Glenn Teague, Victorville, CA; grandchildren and their spouses: Cristi and Trevor Smith, Aurora, CO; Michael and Chellie Wakeley, Denton, TX; Kelly and Julie Cota, Casa Grande, AZ; JJ and Jennifer Lynn Cluff, Big Spring, TX; and 12 great-grandchildren.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory.
