Jean Kiker, 63, of Midland, died on Saturday, January 10, 2004, in Houston, Texas after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at the First Baptist Church Midland with Rev. Bob Porterfield of West Kentucky Baptist Church, and Rev. Bob Hopkins of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Resthaven Memorial Park Midland. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 12, 2004 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Midland.She was born on March 10, 1940, in Meadow, Texas.She was valedictorian of Meadow High School in Meadow, Texas in 1958, a member of All Region Girls Basketball, and attended Texas Tech University from 1958 to 1960. Jean met her husband Bob, and best friend for 44 years, they married on December 5, 1959. She followed Bob through a Navy Reserve career and a Conoco career. She fulfilled her long time desire by receiving her bachelors degree in 2002, at the age of 62. Jean was a great biblical student and a devout Christian and lover of Jesus. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Jean loved everybody and never criticized a person. She was an avid and good tennis player until her ankle and back injuries. She was a childrens book author, her book "Cacti" was published in the West Texas Writers Association. She was going to promote her new book " Scruffy" at the Animal Children's Book Meeting in New York. She had already been approached by a Texas publisher. She was a member of First Baptist Church.Survivors include husband, Bob Kiker of Midland; son, Robert Kiker of Dallas; daughter, Kim Gordon of Mesa, Arizona; mother-in-law, Frances Kiker of Colorado City; sister, Alene Richardson of Lubbock; two brothers, Pete Curtis of Meadow, and Sonny Curtis of Burns, Tennessee; six grandchildren, and four loving canine babies, Mollie Sue, Myckey Letaire, Myndi Mae, and Mystie Leigh.The family suggests memorials be made to Lone Star SPCA, 4200 Fairgrounds Rd., Midland, TX 79705 Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Midland.
