William Ralph Schafer, Sr., 85, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Garden City Cemetery with Van Pendergrass, minister of the Downtown Church of Christ in Stanton, officiating. He was born on October 22, 1915 in Glasscock County, Texas. Mr. Shafer lived in Glasscock County all his life until moving to Big Spring in 1998. He worked on the road crew for Glasscock County and also ranched, retiring in the late 1970's. Mr. Schafer enjoyed playing dominoes. He was a member of Garden City Church of Christ. Survivors include three sons, Hugh Schafer of Garden City, William Ralph Schafer, Jr. of El Dorado and Jerry John Schafer of Caldwell; one daughter, Melissa Jordan of Roswell, New Mexico; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. The family suggests memorials to: West Texas Boys Ranch, 10223 Boys Ranch Road, San Angelo, Texas 76904-9989. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
