Roland Richard Chambers, Sr. was born on February 22, 1937 in Franklin, Texas in Robertson County. He was the seventh of fifteen children born to Ollie Chambers, Sr. and Susie Watson Chambers.He attended public school in Franklin, Texas. He moved to Midland in 1951. Upon moving to Midland Roland began to work as the head cook at The Spot. He continued to work at The Spot from 1951 to 1995. While working at The Spot he desired to venture out to become a business owner of his own establishment. In 1971 he did that and opened Chambers Barbecue. In 1974 another opportunity arose for Roland to become part owner of The Spot. He continued with both business ventures until 1995 when he decided to focus solely on Chambers Barbecue. Roland was well known in Midland for his delicious barbecue and especially his homemade links. Chambers Barbecue was an influential popular business in Midland until Roland’s health began to decline. The business was closed in 2012.Roland Chambers was married to Jerolean Johnson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by both his parents and his brothers Robert Chambers, Alandis Chambers, James Chambers, and Dennis Jackson, and one sister Alva Mae Ward.Roland leaves to cherish his memories his children: Carolin Zachery (Galberson), Tammie Hickey, Roland Richard Chambers, Jr. (Rhonda), Joshua Chambers, and Raymond Chambers (Phileshia), all of Midland, TX, Regina Chambers, McKinney, TX, Michael Chambers, Desoto, TX, Andrea Robinson (Kenneth) Arlington, TX, and Cheryl Arvie (Danny), Royce City, TX. His sibling Marvin Gray, Ollie Chambers, Jr., Vermel Autry, Margret Jones, Naomi Coleman, Arlena Jefferson, Glenn Chambers, Ivy Chambers, Eve Stansell. He also leaves to cherish his memory 23 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.The family will host a fish-fry/barbecue in Roland’s honor Friday, February 2, 2018 @ 6:00 pm at 407 Liddon Midland, TX. All family and friends are invited.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Greater Ideal Baptist Church, 411 S Tyler ST in Midland, with Dr. George A.
