Roberto Gomez, age 72, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 in Midland, TX. A rosary will be held at 7:30pm on Friday, November 27, 2020 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 9:00am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Msgr Droll officiating. Social distancing and wearing a mask will be enforced at both events. There will be a live video streaming of the funeral service on St. Ann’s Facebook page for those who cannot attend. Roberto was born on May 19, 1948 in Barstow, Texas to Carmen Carrasco Gomez and Jesus Gomez. He had three brothers – Malcolvio, Chon (deceased), and Jose Gomez. He had two sisters, both deceased, Irma Blanca Gomez and Amparo “Ann” Sanchez. He married his high school sweetheart, Yolanda Hinojos, on October 4, 1969 in Odessa, TX. Yolanda and Roberto met while attending Ector High School in Odessa. He graduated from Ector in May 1968. Upon graduation, he served in the US Air Force from August 2, 1968-1972. During his time with the military, he was able to travel and see the world. This included Michigan, Johnston Island, Hawaii and last stop Austin, TX where their oldest daughter, Deborah Gomez, was born. This new family of three moved back to Odessa and immediately planted roots here and never looked back. The family grew to include their youngest daughter, Teresa Gomez. Roberto began his career at United Parcel Service in September 1972 after his service with the Air Force. He began as a car washer in Odessa, TX and then moved to Midland to help open the new center as a delivery driver. During his tenure with UPS, he saw many promotions that included being Pre Load Supervisor before retiring in May 2003. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Yolanda Gomez, and daughters Deborah Gomez and Teresa (Chris) Guerrero, granddaughter Deandra Owen, grandsons Andre Owen, Roberto Guerrero, and Antonio Guerrero, and one great granddaughter Rose April Bales. Roberto is preceded in death by his parents, Carmen and Jesus Gomez, his in laws – Ramon and Chepa Hinojos, his brother, Chon, and sisters Irma Blanca and Amparo. He was surrounded in life by many loving family members – including all his Godchildren, nephews and nieces, who adored him until his passing. We will never forget his wittiness, humor, advice, and quietness through the highs and lows of our lifetime with him. His faith in God and strong commitment to his family will never be forgotten and will be the cornerstone of his legacy.The family would like to express their gratitude towards the doctors and nurses who took care of him during his 6-1/2-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. This includes Dr. Manmeet Mangat, Dr. Papica, and all the nurses at Texas Oncology in Midland, TX, as well as his doctor at MD Anderson in Houston, TX, Dr. Sheeba Thomas. We also are very appreciative for the support and attention given by Drs. Tejada, Ginne, Atkins, and Ravi Patel. In addition the family would like to thank his nephew, Randy (Irene) Sanchez, who was like a son to him, for his love and support throughout his life.
