R.E. “Buddy” Smithie, 67, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

He was born May 5, 1951 in Tylertown, Mississippi and married Beverly McNew August 20, 1971 in Big Spring.

Buddy owned and operated Buddy and Son’s Body Shop from 1972 until present. He enjoyed dancing, drinking a cold beer, cooking, fishing, and was especially proud of his restored 1965 Chevy Super Sport Impala Convertible. Buddy loved his family and was willing to help anyone in need.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Smithie; one son, Shannon Smithie; one daughter, Brandie Smithie all of Big Spring; three grandchildren, Dylan Ray Smithie and wife, Kaegan, Preslie Smithie and Hartlie Smithie; a future great-granddaughter, Dylanie Smithie due in July; two sisters, Anne Wycoff and husband, Reginald, and Billie McNew; one brother, Francis Marion; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Myrick and Wanda Tubbs; one brother-in-law, W. J. McNew; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.

The family suggests memorials to The American Cancer Society, % Vicki Stewart, 6 Coachmans Circle, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
