Lila Chavez Rodriguez, 86, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, June 25, 2009, in a local hospital. Vigil services will be at 7:00 PM Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 27, 2009 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Ariel Lagunilla, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.She was born on December 10, 1922, in Toyah, Texas and married Gus Rodriguez in September 1949 in Stanton. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1990.She came to Big Spring as a young girl with her family and lived here most of her life. During World War II, she and her sister, Pola Gomez, worked for the Texas and Pacific Railroad. They were two of a number of hispanic women who filled in for the men that were in the military service. Lila had worked at Hall-Bennett Hospital in housekeeping for 22 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.Survivors include three sons, Bob Montanez and wife, Anita D. of Odessa, Gilbert Rodriguez and Manuel Rodriguez both of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Julio Montanez of Ft. Worth, Gilberto Rodriguez, Jr., Ana Maria Rodriguez and Marisela Rodriguez all of Big Spring; a brother & sister-in-law, Savas and Chita Chavez of Holland, Michigan; a niece, Sulema Roman and many other nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; four sisters, a daughter, Ana Maria Rodriguez, and two nieces, Sarah Roman and Fita Rubio.Pallbearers will be Julio Montanez, Gilberto Rodriguez, Jr., Andy Gamboa, Benito Rubio, Jody Rodriguez and Jeremy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Margie Johnson, Nikki Johnson, Chayo Olguin and George Roman.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
