Leona Thompson, 85, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2001, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM Thursday, September 20, 2001, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. David Ring, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. She was born on March 6, 1916 in San Saba County, Texas and married J. D. Thompson on January 4, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Thompson came to Big Spring in 1947 from Fort Worth. She was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 50 years, a member of Big Spring Chapter #67, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Order of the Beauceants. Survivors include her husband, J. D. Thompson of Big Spring; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and Paschal Odom of Big Spring and Jane and Bob Glover of Abilene; her grandchildren, Jill Spannaus and husband, Mark, and their children, Lindsay and Carrie Spannaus of Midland, Jack Odom and wife, Laura, and their daughter, Jessica Odom of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Shannon Glover of Fort Worth and Joel Glover of West Point Military Academy; and one brother and sister-in-law, Joe M. and Sarah Jean Owen of Fort Worth. The family suggests memorials be made to: Scottish Rite Learning Center of West Texas, Inc., P.O. Box 10135, Lubbock, Texas 79408.
