James Denvil Whisenhunt, 92, of Midland, TX, passed away on February 13, 2020. He was born September 4, 1927, in Glenwood, AR.Denvil married LaRue Webb on March 11, 1951. They lived in a variety of places as they traveled with his job with Shell Oil Company. He worked for Shell for 37 years. Denvil, or J.D.as he was known to many, taught his family to trust the Lord and work hard. He loved growing things – whether it was raising cattle, growing peanuts, or playing in his garden. Many had never seen the likes of his watermelon, cantaloupes and pumpkins!Denvil was a member of the Baptist Church and served as an active deacon for many years in both Whitesboro, TX and Hobbs, NM. He raised four children and taught them his faith as well as his work ethic through his words and actions. He enjoyed working with his sons as they raised animals to participate in livestock shows. His family and friends enjoyed playing numerous card and domino games with him over the years. Denvil will be remembered as a steadfast Christian who loved and cared greatly for his family.Denvil was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Dicie Whisenhunt, three sisters, two brothers, and one son, Thomas Lee Whisenhunt. Survivors include his wife, LaRue Whisenhunt of Midland; children: Elaine Whisenhunt of Midland; Randy (Janet) Whisenhunt of Hillsboro, KS; and Loretta (Hadyn) Bourn of Houston, TX. Other survivors include grand-daughters Julie Ford (husband Tony and children James and Joseph) and Jenny Whisenhunt of New York City, NY; and Gabi Bourn of Houston, TX. Denvil is also survived by one sister, Catherine Williams of Glenwood, AR., and a host of additional beloved family members from both the Webb and Whisenhunt clans.Friends are invited for visitation with the family on Monday, February 17, 2020, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, 3800 N. Big Spring Street Midland, TX 79705. A family graveside service celebrating Denvil’s life will be at 1:30 p.m. MST on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, followed by a public funeral service at 2:00 p.m. MST at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Chapel, 1900 E Stanolind Rd., Hobbs, NM 88240.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
