Gladys Shortes

Gladys Shortes, 88, of Ackerly, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Gaylon Lamb, minister of Ackerly Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. She was born on November 6, 1912 in Megargel, Texas and married Vernon Shortes on December 5, 1935 in Archer City, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1993. Mrs. Shortes graduated from Megargel High School and came to Ackerly in 1945. She was a member of Ackerly Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Eva Shortes and Don and Glenda Shortes all of Ackerly; three grandchildren, Kelley Shortes and Danae Shortes both of Lubbock and Russ Shortes of Austin and a sister, Leona Colgan of Megargel. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Gale Shortes on February 15, 1939, her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
