Gary Owen 85, of Midland, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 4:00PM-6:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. A Celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 1:00PM at First Baptist Church Chapel in Midland. Private family burial will be held at Resthaven Cemetery.Gary was born on October 3, 1933 to Hazel Edwards Owen and Claud Owen in Stonewall County and moved to Lubbock with his family when he was a young boy. Midland has been his home since 1957. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught 6th grade boys for almost 40 years. Gary worked for Great Western Drilling his entire career. He was active in Jaycee’s, Lions Club and most recently in the Kairos Jail Ministry. One of the highlights of the week was when he met the group of friends for breakfast at the Main Street Diner on Saturdays. His very favorite vacation spot was fishing at Vallecito, Colorado. His love for sports started when a group of young boys would meet on a neighborhood vacant lot and play baseball for hours every day. His state champion football team at Lubbock High School was inducted into the Hall of Honor.He and his wife, Jan have been married for 64 years and have two children, daughter, Lisa Kidwell and husband, Jack and their twin daughters, Kristen Bradshaw and husband, Garrett; Kaylee Kent and husband, Michael; son, Chuck Owen and wife, Sally and her children, Stanley and Samantha Weiner; and four precious great grandchildren; he loved his God, wife, family, friends and Church.He is preceded in death by his parents, grandmother, Annabelle Edwards; grandchildren, Kensie and Clint Owen and sister, Claudene Thorne.A special thank you to Hospice Midland, and Legacy Ranch.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Hospice Midland, First Baptist Church, Benevolence Ministry.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
