Darren Lawrence Taylor, 32, of Midland, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, 4805 Gateway St., Midland. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.Darren was born on September 18, 1984 in Bakersfield, CA, to Deborah and William Taylor. He grew up loving and playing almost every sport. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and earned his Eagle Scout at age 16. He graduated in 2003 from Lee High School in Midland, where he played for the Mighty Rebel Band.Not long after graduating, Darren served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah. After his mission he finished his education at Brigham Young University with Bachelor's degree in Recreational Management and a Business Minor.Darren later moved back to Texas where he continued to pursue his passion for sports and fitness. He began working on a Masters in Kinesiology at UTPB while also competing in volleyball tournaments throughout west Texas. He worked as an assistant volleyball coach at Midland College and later as a Graduate Assistant for UTPB Volleyball. Darren had just recently been accepted into the Physical Therapy program at Odessa College.Darren loved water sports, playing volleyball, and riding motorcycles. He was a kind and gentle soul who treated everyone with respect and love. Darren was adored by his daughter, nieces, and nephews, and was loved as a brother by his friends. He had an infectious smile and laugh. He was a wonderful father, son, brother, and friend and will be missed by all.He is survived by his daughter, Lyllie Doss Taylor; parents, Deborah and William Taylor; sister, Cassie Viets; brother, Devin Taylor; sister, Sarah Fellmeth; sister, Chelsea Larsen; maternal grandparents, Melba and Ted Rumsey; 7 nieces and 2 nephews.He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Lawrence and Bettie Taylor.Pallbearers will be Devin Taylor, Chris Cooper, Mike Rodriguez, Curtis Brown, Austin Williams, Josh Viets, Ben Fellmeth, Dustin Larsen and Drew Cross (honorary).The family suggests donations be made to his daughter, Lyllie.
