Burial will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in Midland, TX.Charles Eugene Baker was born on October 5, 1931 to James Orval and Veda Harris Baker. Charles graduated from Russellville High School in 1949. After high school, he attended Arkansas Tech on a basketball scholarship. During his sophomore year, he left school to join the Air Force during the Korean War. In 1954, after the war, he returned to Arkansas Tech where he met his wife, Sarah Cargile. Charles transferred to the University of Arkansas where he earned his degree in Geology, Math, and Physics.Upon graduation, he began his career as a Geophysicist with Humble Oil & Refining Company, which later became Exxon. His distinguished career with Exxon led to assignments in South Texas, Corpus Christi, Houston, Sydney, Australia, and Midland, Texas. Charles retired from Exxon in 1985 and led an active life golfing, traveling, and enjoying his family. Charles was an accomplished golfer and loved to remind us that he had made four holes in one. His love of travel took him to all fifty states and all seven continents.He is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Sarah Cargile Baker; his daughter, Jan Baker; his daughter, Judi Baker Fisher and her husband, Neil Fisher, and their children, Charles Hudson Fisher and Anna Caroline Fisher all of Midland; and his son, Brian Charles Baker and his wife Nannette Carpenter Baker, and their children, Brian Charles \Chase\ Baker, II and James Patrick \Jake\ Baker of Houston; his sister, Margaret Baker Grant of Russellville; his sister, Vicki Baker Betterton, of Russellville; his brother, Wayne Baker; and his brother, Robert C. \Bob\ Baker of Fayetteville, Arkansas.The family wishes to thank Hospice of Midland for their help and support and asks that any donations be directed to Hospice Midland, Midland Christian School, or to the Kenya Widows and Orphans Ministry.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
