Carol Calhoun Harral, 94, of Fort Stockton, Texas passed away on October 16, 2020. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 1501 West 5th Street, Fort Stockton, Texas.Carol was born in San Angelo, Texas to Catherine Houston Calhoun and James Randol Calhoun. She married Frederick Sherrod Harral on November 23, 1955 and they resided in Fort Stockton for their married life. While Carol enjoyed taking care of her home and family, she was also employed for a time as a high school teacher. This led to the organization of a teachers credit union by Carol and her husband, Fred. Together, they served on its Board of Directors for numerous years. When the main office moved to Odessa, Texas, they continued with a branch office in Fort Stockton. That entity, the West Texas Educators Credit Union, remains in operation to the present time.Carol enjoyed gardening and was especially fond of irises and peace roses. She won numerous accolades in contests with her prize irises. She and Fred always had beautiful rose beds which were greatly admired by visitors to their home. Carol was also an avid animal lover and supporter. She related stories about her favorite childhood horse, Trigger, and their home was always filled with numerous dogs and cats.Mrs. Harral is survived by her two sons, Frederick Sherrod Harral, Jr. and William Randal Harral; grandchildren Kevin Harral and Lindsey O'Neil; and great granddaughter Willow Grace O'Neil. She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick Sherrod Harral; her parents James and Catherine Calhoun; her sister Marguerite Franks; and two brothers Elvis Calhoun and Pete Calhoun.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Bertha Melendez, Hortencia Celaya, Todd and Raquel Mishnick, Hank Elliot, and all the other friends and neighbors who have helped and supported Carol.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Wounded Warriors or the West Texas Boys Ranch.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
