Billy Gus Tatom, 71, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, April 13, 2001, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Jason Neill of Brownfield, officiating. He was born on January 15, 1930 in Colorado City, Texas and married Johnnie Reynolds on September 5, 1954 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mr. Tatom came to Big Spring with his parents, A. G. and Opal Tatom, as a young boy. He grew up and attended school here. He returned to Big Spring in 1963 and owned and operated Tatom's Texaco Service and later Big Mike's Farm Store on the Snyder Highway, retiring in 1989. He was a Methodist and had served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Tatom of Big Spring; one son and daughter-in-law, John Corby and Barbara Tatom of Carlsbad, New Mexico; one daughter and son-in-law, Cappy Tatom and Bobby Sanders of Midland; two sisters, Kathryn Johnson and Vada Ruth Doyle both of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Mark Corralez of Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, Yu Li of Midland, Nikki Tatom of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Billy Tatom of Carlsbad, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
