Bill N. Pinkston, 95, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 3:00-5:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 10:00AM at First Baptist Church in Stanton. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton.Bill was born on August 4, 1921 to Nealie and William (Bill) Pinkston in Crossplains, TX. In his early life, he lived in various places. He shared memories of driving cattle with his brother from Knott into Stanton, where they settled. He married the “catch” of his life, Vida, on October 20, 1946. And retired after 33 years of employment with Union Oil of California.He accepted Christ as his Savior as a young boy and grew into a man of great faith. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for most of his adult life. He leaves a legacy of following Jesus and serving in the church and community to his family.Bill was known for his fierce competitive spirit whether it was sports in school, football at North Texas State, his service in the Cavalry, or full contact dominoes. Bill was passionate about fishing at Dingler's on the Rio Grande, hunting on his ranch in Eastland, gardening in his back yard, and football of any kind.He is survived by his wife, of 70 years, Vida Pinkston; daughter, Brenda and husband Jay Suberbielle; daughter, Janis Poindexter; son, Billy (Pat) and wife Carol Pinkston; 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his parents, Nealie and William (Bill) Pinkston, siblings, Raymond Pinkston, Howard Pinkston, Opal Bracher, Matria Whiteley and Bernice Warner.Pallbearers will be John Eichelberger, Ben Casmer, Billy Hendrix, Jason Suberbielle, Boyce Powell and Greg Pinkston. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Swinney, Gene Jumper, and Charlie Pinkerton.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be donated to Mission Dorado Baptist Church Building Fund, 4142 Faudree Rd, Odessa, TX 79765 or First Baptist Church, 200 Broadway St., Stanton, TX 79782.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland.
