Alta Mae Straub Cook, 85, of San Antonio, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 17, 2017.Alta was born December 6, 1931, in Abilene, Texas to the late Mason D. and Lillian Belle Coggin. She was a longtime resident of Stanton, Texas and graduated from Stanton High School in 1950. She married Claude W. Straub of Stanton, Texas that same year. Alta spent most of her working career in the employment of Martin County working in the Sheriff’s department and later in the County Treasurer’s Department. She attended First United Methodist Church while living in Stanton. Several years after the death of Claude Straub she married Eddie C. Cook, a Stanton resident and local farmer. They spent many evenings checking the irrigation pivot systems, visiting, going out to eat and playing cards with family and friends. On more than one occasion they were asked why it took so long to check the irrigation pivots…. She and Eddie were never able to give a good answer to that one! After Eddie’s death in 2003 she moved to Manor Park Retirement Center in Midland, Texas where she enjoyed visiting and card playing with the other residents. She lived in San Antonio, Texas the last few years of her life so she could be located closer to family.Alta is survived by two sons and their wives, Claude W.
