W. A. Bynum, 87, of Big Spring, died Saturday, October 28, 2017 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Mt. Olive Memorial Park Chapel, with Skip Hedgpeth officiating.The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.W. A. was born July 21, 1930 in Snyder, Oklahoma. He liked to joke that “he wasn’t born a Texan, but came as soon as he could crawl\. He moved to Big Spring in 1931, where he lived most of his life on the family farm which was homesteaded by his grandfather.W. A. spent from 1950 to 1955 in the U. S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. In 1955, he returned to his hometown and went to work for Civil Service at Webb Air Force Base. He worked as an airplane mechanic at Webb Air Force Base until 1978. He retired from Civil Service when Webb Air Force Base closed. In the fall of 1978, he went to work for CRMWD and worked for them until July 1995, at which time he retired in order to build things. He loved working with his hands and made a chuck-wagon from scratch, built many violins, small windmills, wagons, jewelry boxes, quilt racks, etc. He gave many of his handcrafted items away and liked to say he had fiddles from California to Germany. W. A. was happiest when he could spend time in his shop. He was an avid reader, crossword puzzle and Sudoku solver.On March 7, 1967, W. A. married Judith (Judy) Burton in Lovington, New Mexico. From that time on, Judy helped W. A. raise his children. They celebrated 50 years of marriage this year.Survivors include his wife, Judy Bynum of Big Spring; his daughter Cindy Sturdivant, and husband, Landon of Big Spring; a daughter, Lorrie McCampbell and husband, Steve Doucet of Biloxi Mississippi; a son, Cecil Bynum and wife, Teresa of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Justin Williams and wife, Jenny of Dupont, Washington, Aarika Ellsworth and husband, Matt of Denver, Colorado, Austin Bynum and wife, Molly of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Ashley Jones and husband, Aaron of Maysville, Oklahoma. He is also survived by four great grandchildren: Xavier and Katija Williams: and Levi and Amon Jones. His son, William Arlin Bynum, disappeared from Big Spring on August 15, 2003. His whereabouts are still unknown.W. A. was preceded in death by his parents, Errol and Erna Bynum, two sisters, Inez Farmer and Delavina Doyle; and a son, William Arlin Bynum.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Dora Roberts Rehab, 306 W. 3rd St., Big Spring, TX 79720 or the Big Spring Area Community Foundation/Arlin Bynum Memorial Scholarship.
