Virginia Foertsch Glenn died quietly in her sleep the morning of November 28, 2015.Virginia was born November 13, 1932 at home, with her blind grandmother and eight year old sister in attendance. Her sister Pat always claimed the date was easy to remember because it could have been a Friday the 13th. Born in Chicago, she lived on the South Side of Chicago in the Morgan Park neighborhood before leaving for college. She attended Ripon College in Wisconsin for two years before transferring to the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana campus, where she earned a BS in RecreationWhile attending U of I she met Sidney Glenn while on a double blind date – unfortunately, he was not her date! The man responsible for introducing them later entered the priesthood. They were married in Chicago, September of 1954. The wedding was briefly delayed by the German submarine, U-505, which was being transported to the Museum of Science and Industry. After Sidney completed graduate school in Syracuse, he began his career as a geologist with a major oil company. This career moved the family from South America to North Africa before their return to the United States.Virginia worked part time in retail, as well as being a full time homemaker. In later years she became a successful investor. She was active in the community. Her volunteer work for MHMR eventually got the whole family involved. Her family involvement with City of Midland Swim Team drew her into a position on the board. She shared a name and a near birthday with 2 close friends, also from the Midwest. Much like the Three Musketeers, the Three Ginnys had many adventures. She loved to golf, loved playing bridge with her friends, and loved to read. With her good friend Sam Guyton, she hosted an annual St. Patrick’s Day party for 50 years. She is survived by her three children, Margo Glenn-Lewis and her husband Michael Glenn-Lewis of Davis, CA; Kelly Glenn Stout of Midland, TX; and Sidney Glenn and his wife Laura Morrison Glenn of Winnetka, IL. She has five grandchildren, Virginia Mary Stout, Kaycee Sidney Stout, Madeleine Jane Glenn, Sidney Miles Glenn and Jessica Sue Glenn, and one great grandchild, Mathew Glenn Stout-Martin.There will be a Rosary at Nelly-Pickle & Welch on Friday at 7 pm.Services will be Saturday at 9 a.m., St. Ann’s Church followed by graveside services at Resthaven Memorial Park.
