Joe (Buggar Red) Burl Scott was born on November 15, 1928 in Rowlett, Texas to Dave Walter and Ruby Jones Scott. He spent his younger days in northeast Texas attending school at Mt. Vernon, Greenville, and Cooper. He moved to Childress, Texas in 1944 where he attended high school and was a member of the Childress Bobcats Team. He moved to Midland in 1948 and worked at Stuart Photo Shop and Riley Reproduction. He enlisted in the United States Army in November of 1950 and served 13 months in Korea and Japan with the 63rd Field Artillery of the 34th Regiment and 24th Division. He was discharged in October of 1952.In 1954, he married Nell Curran and together they had four children, Doak, Randy, Sandi, and Shari. In 1955, Joe started working for the United States Post Office until his retirement in 1987 after 35 years of service. He was a little league baseball coach for 13 years, high junior for 4 years, and a YMCA football coach for 6 years.Joe is preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Scott of Tyler, Texas and Glen Wright of Midland, Texas; wife, Nell Scott of Midland, Texas; father, Walter Scott of San Angelo, Texas; and his mother, Ruby Wright of Midland, Texas.He is survived by his children, Doak Scott, Randy Scott, Sandi Price, and Shari Aguilar, all of Midland, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.His greatest loves in life was his family, the Lee Rebels, Texas Longhorn Football; and Country Western Dancing.Graveside services were held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Fairview Cemetery in Midland. Honorary pallbearers were David Perry, Monty McLane, Gaylord Morgan, Gary Vandergriff, Max McLane, and Jerry Ewing.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Midland.
