Jerry Ruethel Hawkins, 71, of Midland joined the company of our Lord and Savior on December 1, 2018. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Cotton Flat Baptist Church with graveside services to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.Jerry was born on April 26, 1947 in Seminole, Texas to Royce & Mary Berry and became baby sister to her brother and best friend, David. She was married to John Leach Hawkins of Rotan, Texas for over 51 years. While they lived many places, they made Midland, Texas their home. She was a devoted mother of 4, Grancy to 6 and spent her life teaching her children that intelligence, devotion, loyalty and strength of character is not learned in a classroom. She was known for her no-nonsense approach to life and her quick, wicked sense of humor was present until the last. She was a fierce defender of her family and a mother to all. She opened her home to children and animals alike, making her house the center of the neighborhood. She served on numerous PTAs, Board of Directors for MUGS softball, attended thousands of softball games, soccer games, band and orchestra concerts, and cheerleading events and put a million miles on several vehicles in the process. To know her was to witness selfless devotion to one’s family.Jerry is survived by her husband, John, her brother David Berry and his wife Lucy of Midland, oldest daughter Kelly and her husband Ben Ferguson, daughter Holly Lazzari, son Juston Hawkins and daughter Jaime and her husband Tommy Cole all of Midland. Jerry and John have six grandchildren: Montgomery and Cayden Light of Midland, Case Martin and Jayden Lazzari of Oklahoma and Brody and Reagan Cole of Midland; as well as, John’s brothers David Hawkins and wife Minnie, Tim Hawkins and wife Pam; and several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as cousins she considered as close as siblings.Jerry is preceded in death by her parents, Royce and Mary Berry of Seminole, father and mother-in-law, Fred and Chrystelle Hawkins, and sister-in-law, Lynda Kenner. The family would like to express their gratitude for the kind condolences, meals, prayers and all the shared memories that made us laugh and cry.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
