Jay Todd Miller of Midland, Texas passed away on his 69th birthday, November 6, 2018.  Jay Todd was born on November 6, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to Myrl and Bobbie Miller. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Eunice, NM and was a proud Eunice Cardinal, playing saxophone in the band.

He graduated from the University of New Mexico and quickly found himself investigating accidents and learning how to keep people safe. That knowledge would launch his 40 year career as a Safety Professional and Engineer, earn him a patent in chemical cleanup, and save numerous lives.  He volunteered for The American Red Cross, United Way, and local Fire Departments.  He was very involved in the First Baptist Church of Hobbs, NM and Midland, Texas, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon.  He was passionate about sharing his faith, not just by teaching, but by investing in the children and youth of the community.  Jay was a generous man and was always looking for an opportunity to give.  He coached his daughter’s elementary basketball team and led a girls youth softball league to state championship.

Jay was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman. His favorite hunts involved tracking elk in the mountains of NM and CO.   The mountains felt like home to him and he made sure to pass on that respect of nature to his children and grandchildren.   Jay loved his family and took great pride in sharing stories to any listening ear.

He was married to his wife, Eva Lynn Miller (Morris) for 39 years, before she passed away February 26, 2017. Some of his favorite moments were spent listening to her play hymns and Christmas songs on her baby grand piano.  Jay and Eva had a special place in their hearts for dachshunds, backyard turtles, and birds.  Jay Miller taught his daughters how to be generous, how to be brave and strong, how to respect nature, but mainly how to give time and love to others when they saw a need.

He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Miller, and her three children, his daughter, Kyla Rodgers, and her husband, Jeff; a brother, Mark Miller, and his wife, Kem; a nephew, George Miller; and a niece, Kristi Barker.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2018, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, Chapel in Midland. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Eastlawn Memorial Park, Early, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be sent at www.npwelch.com .
