Deva Leona McFarland, 94, of Midland, Texas, formerly of Alamogordo, New Mexico, died March 5, 2018 at Legacy Ranch Alzheimer’s facility in Midland, Texas. Interment will be at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo, New Mexico on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. MST.Mrs. McFarland was born September 1, 1923 in Waynoka, Oklahoma to Henry and Edna Sacket. She was living in Clovis, New Mexico where she met her husband Jerry H. McFarland who was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. They were married on September 18, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah.She and Jerry moved to Alamogordo in 1961 and were members of the First Baptist Church. Deva had several different jobs over the years including telephone operator while living in Clovis. She was an avid card player and seamstress/knitter and received her Life Master in Contract Bridge on July 1, 1988. She was a co-owner of the bridge studio in Alamogordo in the 1980s.Survivors include a son, Michael McFarland and his wife Cheryl of Florida, two daughters, Jerry Lynn Marino and her husband Lee of Pennsylvania and Deva Eileen Stewart and her husband Vic of Texas; three grandchildren, Shannon Murley and her husband John of Ohio, Amanda Fitser and her husband Jim of Pennsylvania and Meghan Pimentel and her husband Anthony of South Dakota; one great-granddaughter, Kyra of Pennsylvania and three great-grandsons, Elliott of Ohio, Sterling of Pennsylvania and Chase of South Dakota.Deva was predeceased by her husband, Jerry on January 4, 2008; one brother, Jack Sacket and two sisters, Maxine Pratt and Janet Wood.
