Christen Walker Dilworth, 64, of Midland passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 surrounded by her family and friends. There will be a Wake Service held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Midland.Christen was born July 6, 1953 to Bernice and Roy Walker in Poteau, OK. She was 1 of 10 children. Christen graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Lubbock in 1972. She was an active member of Future Teachers of America, Future Homemakers of America, Student Council and an honor roll student. She graduated from Sul Ross State University in 1976 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education and minor in Special Education, and accomplished one year on her Master’s Degree in Education. While attending Sul Ross State University she was on the Dean’s list, Presidents’ Student Advisory Committee and President of (SABU) Student Association for Black Unity. She was the first Black “Brand Queen” (Miss Sul Ross State University). In 1998 she wrote the poem \I Love\ which is currently published in the National Library of Poetry.Christen started her teaching career in Lamesa as a Middle School Teacher in 1976, where she taught for two years. She was married in 1978 to Darriel Paul Dilworth (who preceded her in death). She moved to Midland in 1979 and taught at Emerson Elementary for 36 years. She had a passion for teaching and a love for her students because they were her number one priority, to make sure they succeeded. She taught Reading Recovery, Special Education, System 44 and back to Special Education. Her last four years she taught at Henderson Elementary Dynamic Reading (special needs). She was responsible for Development and Reading Rodeo. She initiated Accelerated Reading Program. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Macedonia Baptist Church.She is survived by brother, Earnest Walker and wife, Johnnie Robinson Walker of Lubbock; sister, Bernadine Walker Terrell and husband Thomas H. Terrell of Lubbock; sister, Jeanette Walker Porch of Dallas; sister, Johnnie Mae Walker of Antioch, TN; brother, Roy Walker Jr. and wife Paula Walker of Richardson; sister, Maxine Walker of Oklahoma City; sister, Linda Walker Evans of Midland; 6 nephews, 4 nieces, 3 great nephews, 3 great nieces, and 1 great great niece.She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bernice Walker; sister, Evelyn Davis; and brother, Barix Walker.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
