- Jim R. Welch of Midland beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, departed this life Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the age of 84 years. Visitation will be Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 6-8:00 p.m., at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral in Midland. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at Serenity Memorial Gardens with Don Mitchell officiating.
Mr. Welch was born October 25, 1925 to Walter Fleming and Ophelia Ann Welch. Jim became a Christian at a very young age and was a longtime member of Fairmont Park Church of Christ. He married the love of his life Jean, August 31, 1957 in Springdale, Arkansas. They moved to Midland in 1961. He worked as a Sheet Metal Mechanic Foreman for Neills Inc. until his retirement. Jim worked on a lot of the big buildings downtown, including Midland Memorial Hospital. Mr. Welch was proud to have served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corp with the 39th Bombardment Group on the island of Guam.
Those left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife Jean of 52 years; two sons, Jim E. and friend Carrie of Mesa, AZ, Clay and wife Lisa of Shallowater; three daughters, Melody Welch of Midland, Deborah Clark of Borger, TX, Kathy and husband Chuck Johnson of Fritch, TX; eight grandchildren, Blake Johnson, Ashley Johnson, Meggan Welch, Jacob Welch, Jennifer Welch, Madison Welch, Kristin Clarke, Kelsey Clarke; seven great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Claude Roles and wife Polly of Hatfield, AR; sister-in-law, Elizabeth and husband James Thompson of Springdale, AR; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Welch is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bill, Maynard and Paul Welch, sister Doris Haney.
Pallbearers will be: Tommy Childers, John Orsak, Clayton White, Claude Roles, Jacob Welch, and Chuck Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Richard Klempnauer and Dr. James Barnett.
