- Ronald D. Gilbreath, 74, of Stanton, died on Saturday, February 6, 2010, in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Monte Kreis, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Ronnie was born March 7, 1935 to Hoyt and Valeria Gilbreath in Weinert, Texas. He and his family moved to Stanton in 1943 where Ronnie attended school and graduated from Stanton High School. He went to work for Arrington Funeral Home in Stanton while he was still in high school on January 1, 1953. He then attended Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones Mortuary School.
He married Mary Lou Bland January 8, 1955 in Lueders, Texas.
Ronnie & Mary purchased the funeral home in Stanton in 1962 and served the community for 36 years. They merged the Gilbreath Funeral Home with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in 1998 and Ronnie continued to work in his profession. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Gilbreath of Stanton; one daughter & son-in-law, Rhonda and Gary Barnes of Odessa; a grandson, Joshua Barnes and wife, Emily of Dallas; a granddaughter, Krista Barnes of Odessa; and a great granddaughter, Rayleigh Barnes of Odessa.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Gilbreath in 1974.
